GIPS Anti-Ragging Campaign:
Every human being is entitled to basic rights, liberties, and freedom; and this includes a newcomer at GIPS. We need to welcome all newcomers with an open heart, and endeavour to make their journey at GIPS as pleasant and educational as possible.
GIPS recognises that ragging is damaging to the self-esteem of students and has a long history of ruining countless lives, not just of the juniors, but also of those who indulge in it. That’s why everyone at GIPS has taken a pledge to make the institute a ragging-free zones.
Ragging is a punishable offence according to The Assam Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1998. GIPS has adopted an impregnable strategy to tackle the menace. A monitoring mechanism comprising of the Anti-Ragging Committee (ARC) and the Anti Ragging Squad (ARS) is responsible to eliminate ragging from the campus.
A victim of ragging, or their parents/guardian should write to the Chairman, and the ARC, giving details of the ragging incident without any delay. The ARC will investigate and suggest mode of punishment to the guilty party. In accordance with the AICTE rules, the ARC will file a First Information Report (FIR) with the local police authorities. It is understood that once an FIR is lodged, the offence will be treated as per the provisions of the law of the land (i.e., Assam Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1998) and accordingly, persons involved in ragging cases will be tried for criminal offence.
All members of GIPS are to sign an undertaking stating that they will fight for ragging-free GIPS. GIPS has made it compulsory for its students to sign the undertaking. The parent/guardian is also to countersign such an undertaking.
GIPS is happy to announce that not a single case of ragging, not even a minor one, was reported in the last academic season. We have created a healthy tradition at GIPS, and we intend to keep it that way!
The Raghavan Committee’s findings:
The Raghavan Committee declared ragging as a criminal offence and recommended certain measures to curb this offense. Based on these recommendations, Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, vide its order dated 16/05/2007, decided to eradicate ragging from educational institution of India. After this order, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) took up the matter and issued a notification suggesting measures to eradicate ragging from technical institutes of our country.
Anti-Ragging Committee:
Following the directives found in the Raghavan Committee, GIPS strengthened its stand against ragging and adopted an impregnable strategy to tackle the menace. A monitoring mechanism comprising of the Anti-Ragging Committee (ARC) with the following members has been set up:

The ARS is tasked with preventing ragging at GIPS. The members stay vigilant, and conduct anonymous, random surveys among new students to check whether the campus is indeed free from ragging. The members of the ARS are authorized to challenge any group or individual suspected of indulging in any form of ragging.
Punishment:
The punishment meted out to those indulged in ragging must be exemplary and justifiably harsh to serve as a deterrent against recurrence of such incidents. The students who are found to indulge in ragging will be debarred from taking admission in any technical institution in India.
Depending upon the nature and gravity of the offence, as established by the ARC, the punishment will be any one or any combination of the following:
The institutional authority shall intimate the incidents of ragging occurred in their premises along with actions taken to the council immediately after occurrence of such incident and inform the status of the case from time to time.
