About GIPS-Guwahati

Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Pharmaceutical Science (GIPS), Guwahati was
established in the year 2007 as the first non-government pharmacy institute in the state of
Assam under the aegis of the Shrimanta Shankar Academy (SSA), a registered society set up
in the year 1992 to make significant contribution for social upliftment through education and
to inculcate a sense of discipline among the youths.

The institute has been approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New
Delhi and recognized by Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), New Delhi. The Institute offers
two years, Diploma in Pharmacy (D. Pharm.); four years degree, Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.
Pharm.); two years B. Pharm (Practice) for in service Pharmacist; two years post graduate,
Master of Pharmacy (Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Chemistry) and
Ph.D. program. The B. Pharm. Programme is accredited and re-accredited by the National
Board of Accreditation (NBA) for three consecutive terms (2016-19; 2019-22 and 2022-25).
The institute has been placed in the Rank-band 76-100 in the year 2021 by NIRF, Ministry of
Education, Govt. of India. The vision and mission of the institute clearly reflects the
commitment of the institute towards promoting quality pharmacy education to cater the needs
of the region, nation and the global community at large.

The institute’s primary objective is to provide the best pharmaceutical education in North-
Eastern region of India. In keeping with its objective for providing the best possible
pharmaceutical education, the college has built up a strong infrastructure in terms of
education, research and development. The institute comprises of highly motivated and
experienced faculty and facilities that enable students to gain a contemporary education and
training. It maintains continuous interaction with industry to ensure that the learning program
remains relevant to the changing trends in pharmaceuticals. The institute is constantly
seeking to upgrade the quality of its education and actively engaged in research to remain on
the cutting edge. Through continuous up gradation, GIPS endeavours to become Centre for
Excellence, where innovative knowledge pertaining to the pharmaceutical field is generated
on a regular basis. The institute follows the credit based semester system for imparting
education as prevalent in other pharmacy institutes across the country. The academic
programs are governed by rules and regulation of AICTE, PCI and affiliating University.
Institute has state-of-art laboratories, sophisticated instruments, well stocked library, Cell
culture laboratory, CPCSEA approved animal house etc. required for effective teaching-learning practices.

The alumni of the institute are placed in various pharmaceutical industries
and other organization of national and international repute, significantly contributing to the
healthcare system. Finally, GIPS assures the progress and prosperity of every aspiring student
in Pharmaceutical Science.
