On September 16, at the Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Pharmaceutical Science, Azara, Guwahati, a one-day seminar with the title “Scientific Thoughts of Srimanta Sankardeva in Social Cohesion” was organised in honour of the eminent assamese cultural and spiritual thinker, social reformer Srimanta Sankardeva. Apart from discussing Srimanta Sankardeva’s religious beliefs, the seminar’s primary goal was to demonstrate the scientific context and support for a number of his works. In this occasion Dr. Pranjal Sarma Basistha, Associate professor, Department of Assamese, Gauhati University and Dr. Debasish Saikia, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Gauhati University along with Dr. Utpal Narayan Goswami, Assistant Professor, Pub Bankhar College were present as the Chief Guests. The program was inaugurated by the Mr. Ratul Das, President, Srimanta Shankar Academy Society with lightening of lamp. The welcome address was delivered by Mr. Shankar Jyoti Baishya. In the seminar Dr. Sarma Basistha, Dr. Saikia and Dr. Goswami described on the topic “An ecocritical evaluation of Sankardeva’s Poetry”, “The Philosophy and Scientific Thoughts on Sri Manta Sankardeva” and “Scientific Perspective of Maati Akhora in Satriya Dance: A Performance” respectively. In the program Dr. Goswami and his team showed a live demonstration on scientific background of “Mati Akhara”. Here it should be mentioned that the artist of Dr. Goswami’s team is recognised by the well-known Sangit Natak Academy. The entire program was quite interesting and mesmerizing as per the feedback of delegates present in the seminar.
